Detective Wilson had been with the Doraville Police Department since 2003, starting as a dispatcher before becoming a sworn police officer in 2007.  He was killed by a drunk driver on November 14, 2011 while responding a violent home invasion.  As the on-call Detective that night, he was traveling westbound on Interstate-20 en route to the scene when a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound struck him head-on. The driver has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, and vehicular homicide and is currently awaiting trial.

Detective Wilson leaves behind his wife, Katy, son, Liam, father, J.D., and mother and stepfather, Gayle and Jim Hansen, both retired DeKalb County police officers.
