1955 – 2011

“Never was Rick without a smile.  He just seemed to be happy to live life. It’s just a shame that those who love life and are willing to put their lives on the line for others are the ones who have to suffer this sort of fate.”

Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough

Daly was a deputy with the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.  He was shot and killed on July 20, 2011 while conducting a traffic stop involving an armed robbery suspect who had been identified by the Sheriff’s fugitive squad.  As Deputy Daly approached the 17-year-old suspect’s car, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the abdomen below his ballistic vest.  The suspect fled the scene, sparking a massive manhunt involving law enforcement officers from several dozen local, state, and federal agencis.  He was apprehended several hours later.

Deputy Daly will be remembered as a dedicated law enforcement officer and family man who served his community both on the job and off.  He leaves behind a large family, including his wife, Cheryl, two grown children, Toby & Amber and their spouses, his mother, Joyce, and four grandchildren.
